South Pointe Park

South Pointe Park

South Pointe Park is a hidden gem on South Beach worth knowing about. Located at the southernmost point on Miami Beach, South Pointe Park is a 17-acre country urban park that boasts beautiful panoramic views of Biscayne BayMore Info, Fisher IslandMore Info and the Atlantic Ocean.

The Federal Government donated the land to Miami Beach in 1979, which used it as a home to police horse stables, a police intelligence unit and the Port of Miami’More Infos harbor pilots until all buildings remaining at the site were razed in 1984 to begin a conversion to a park. The federal government paid for half of all the construction costs. The park has a cut walk that runs the entire length of it, and a board walk facing the inlet. Here, you are able to see the cruise ships heading out to sea as they leave PortMiami.

Renovation plans were first drawn up in the city's 1995 master plan, but the 20-month, $22.5 million renovation wasn't completed until March 2009. Features added in the renovation included 20-foot (6.1 m)-wide walkways lined with Florida limestone and an ocean-themed children's playground.

Today, special features of this park include a “Tot Lot”, interactive water features and a scenic observation deck. Hills are built into and around these features and are perfect for romantic picnics, family time or just relaxing looking out at the beautiful view. In South Pointe, there is also a dog park and a designated “off-leash” dog area. The park wraps entirely around South Beach, connecting to the Miami Beach Marina. Here, you are able to walk next to and see all the beautiful yachts and boats in their slips.

South Pointe Park is considered by many to be the most beautiful area on South Beach. In South Pointe, there is also a Smith and Wollensky restaurant directly on the cut-walk. The entire back of the restaurant is made of glass windows, offering its patrons the beautiful views of the park while dining. They also have a large outdoor bar and patio with seating on the water.

South Pointe Park is considered to be the backyard of the Portofino TowerMore Info, the ContinuumMore Info and The ApogeeMore Info

Just one of the many beautiful landmarks South Beach has to offer. Amazing, breathtaking views. The perfect place to spend the day.
